Summer 2017 Update

Following a very successful year in 2016 with one exoneration and 2 from the previous year, one of our goals for 2017 is to extend the reach of our educational and policy initiatives– and create more impact. One of the ways we would like to achieve this goal is to increase communication with supporters like you.

This year, the Center is working hard on several cases in the advanced stages of investigation and litigation. We are also working to collaborate with the Durham District Attorney’s office to review Durham convictions and are forging collaborative partnerships with other agencies as well. We hope that fostering a spirit of collaboration across agencies will increase the ability to review innocence claims and thus increase confidence in the criminal justice system.

Last year the Center received over 600 claims of innocence. So far this year, the center has already received over 175 new inquiries.

As always, our work requires a partnership between Center staff, our Board, clients, their families, and our supporters in the community. We rely on support from our generous donors to continue our work. We use every donation dollar to sustain our work in representing the wrongfully convicted in North Carolina, and to educate the public, policymakers, and law enforcement communities about factors that lead to wrongful convictions.

Please consider helping us by making a tax-deductible donation online or by mailing a check to:

Thank you so much for your support and generosity!

The Staff at the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence
